The study of sociology studies not only the social structures and relations of the past but also analyses the continuity and change and the way the present social and scientific developments affect the society.

Today sociologists are much concerned with employing sociological perspectives to solve social problems such as those of crime in society, immigration, feminist unrest and others.

Ex 1) suicide in society - in order to find a solution to the problem of suicide, we must know the fundamental reason(s) of suicide.

Ex 2) the case of the Kondh tribe in Orissa – The government provided them with cattle without teaching them the relevant skills required to preserve the milk, so that it could be carried over large distances to the market where it could sold to others.

There are several such examples to suggest the relevance of sociology as an applied social science discipline.
