Unit-4 Decimal Fractions

In this unit we shall consider Decimal fractions.

In the context of multiplication of two whole numbers it is true that “the product is always greater than two numbers”. Is this statement true for decimal numbers? Justify your answer.

It is true for whole numbers except 0 as 0 X 100 = 0 is not greater than 0 or 100 and also 1 X 1 = 1 is not greater than 1.

It is also not true for decimal numbers as when we include both the numbers less than 1, the answer will always be less than the two numbers. E.g. 0.2 X 0.04 = 0.008

 0.008 < 0.2 and 0.008 < 0.4
