You may look at the given problem as follows: we have a solid cylinder of radius 9 cm. and height 71 cm. From this we scoop out a cylinder of radius 8 cm. and height 70 cm. The remaining volume is what we want.

Required volume = 22/7 ×9 × 9 × 71 − 22/7 × 8 × 8 × 70 cu.cm. = 3994.57 cu.cm.
