Latin America was conquered much before India. In India it was followed by the industrial revolution, which adversely affected Indian economy. It was therefore only with the colonisation that the decline of countries like India begins. In a few decades the west had established absolute supremacy in most fields over the countries of what now are called the "third world". Some writers like Andre Gunder Frank have called this as the process of the "development of underdevelopment."
